Monkey King Oakland: Bay Area Comfort Food and Creative Cocktails

In a sea of expensive fine dining, and organic ingredients, is a little place on Piedmont avenue called monkey king. Monkey King is for people who are tired of foie gras and Caesar salad and just want to get down on some really super tasty spicy food. A lot of their menu centers around chicken wings, boneless and with bone, noodles, rice, and an array of snacks both Filipino and Chinese, all of which are damn delicious. I just discovered the place by accident and figured why not, a place named "monkey King" sounded like it might be a good bet. I love Pan Asian or Asian fusion food, that mixes a lot of different flavors and I ordered the Szechuan style boneless wings and the garlic noodles with a ginger beer, and I was in absolute heaven. The wings are so plentiful I could not finish them in a single sitting and I am a big eater. They were even better when I took him home and heated them up. I highly recommend this place to people who want to have some inexpensive Asian street food in a restaurant setting. It's totally worth it. Or you can go have a $35 2 oz piece of Chilean sea bass and sip it with your overpriced merlot. Your call, really.

Great place for lunch or dinner. Nice and spacious with great service. The drinks are tasty (alcoholic) so I recommend definitely! FOOD IS BOOMB!! Good place to chill for a meeting or catch up with friends. Nice atmosphere for maybe even a sweet first date.

This is my new favorite location. I usually go to Alameda, but the Oakland location is my new favorite! The staff are always friendly! My lemon pepper wings are ALWAYS on point. They have had one mess up with my order once, but they immediately provided GREAT customer service and resolved the issue immediately. They are my go-to spot for when I want to treat myself to lunch, and I don't eat out at many places ever since covid. They are a well trusted business and no issues or complaints! Try their lemon pepper wings and strawberry lemonade! Their garlic noodles and house rice are good as well.

Best wings we have had in a long time! Everything was amazing. Definitely have a regular customer, if the prices stay as is. Piedmont ave generally isn't affordable to be, but this place is and their food top notch. Love the fusion . Have to come back and try the other wing flavors as well . 4/2 have now been here 3 times. Everytime they don't disappoint. Tried the jambalaya rice. Pretty bomb.

On the menu it says “Lil’ Man Shrimp & Rice - Hawaiian shrimp truck influenced, shrimp wok tossed in house garlic and butter” What they gave us is deep fried shrimp with spicy peppers and garlic. This is false advertising. Kimchi fried rice was good and big enough for two to share, fortunately, since this is likely going in the trash. Very disappointed at their blatantly incorrect menu. UPDATE: I went ahead and complained to the manager and she was gracious about it and offered to refund the meal and she mentioned she would speak with the owners about changing the online menu to reflect the actual dish they prepare. Increased my rating 2 stars for good customer service

Monkey King has some smacks you need to have in your life. The flavors of monkey king are unique and awesome. Mongolian Beef Chow Mein is something you’ve never had but need to try. Not spice or sweet but a great combo of both. Dry Ribs were good and flavorful. Crispy and tender leaving you wanting more. You will only wish that they were bigger. Paired with garlic fries make them a great starter. Garlic Shrimp and white rice. This dish is tricky. I felt what they were trying to do but I feel they should explain it another way.

First time here, and I can say I had a great experience. For those who have never been here, you pay first and then they bring you your food. The decor is pretty neat and it’s definitely different. Very colorful and nice, definitely pleasing to the eye. I ordered some crab fried rice and honey walnut prawns. The crab fried rice was good, but I didn’t really taste much crab meat. The honey walnut prawns were fried a little bit too hard, so they were extra crunchy and borderline rubbery. But I’m willing to give it another go and try it at another time because the staff was really awesome and everyone else in my party enjoyed their food. I recommend.

This place is amazing. They just opened recently and their menu is limited right now, but the quality of their chicken wings and boneless chicken is beyond compare. Legit chunks of chicken breast. Juicy and crunchy. The garlic noodles should be tried by everyone. Plus, the people who work there are ridiculously friendly and efficient. I for one can not wait for them to fully open. I have tried all the sauces at this point and every single one of them is delicious. You will not regret it.
